I cut down my sarcasm and negativity on Twitter and look what happened

It was recently brought to my attention from a very notable social media influencer that I should make some changes on Twitter if I wanted to stop losing so many followers. Mainly:

  • change my profile pic to one where I am smiling
  • stop being so sarcastic
  • cut down on the negativity
  • play well with others

So I decided to do that for about a month. I didn’t eliminate my “colorful” attitude completely, but I did make a conscious effort to be more positive and relatable. I was truly delighted with the results:

twitter sarcastic and negative

Up until now I was steadily gaining a lot of followers, but I was losing about 80% of them as time went on. Getting new followers was not the problem, keeping them was.

While it isn’t really offensive, it’s not exactly helpful to anyone either. Yes it got a few favorites from people, but ultimately isn’t going to engage any viral conversation.

I refuse to change who I am as a person, but I also know I need to play the game if I want to grow within the industry.
